Ngā mihi o te wā o Hine Raumati! Welcome to Moana Nui’s Summer Season!
We’re very proudly partnering with artists Scotty Cotter and Shanaia Boutsady, to share with you two very special Return Digital Seasons of NEKE and MAETU.
Join us, as we return to the final days of rehearsal, with the cast and crew of NEKE created and directed by award winning artist Scotty Cotter. A devised physical theatre work that explores the pillars of te ao Māori. NEKE is the search and the celebration of our individual journey as Māori. NEKE is the debut work by award winning Māori theatre, film and television actor Scotty Cotter.
Watering lemongrass, staring at a screen and walking through empty hallways – a day to day ritual. As Maetu sits in her little green house she strings back memories through her household objects that have brought her to where she is now. This is MAETU, an abstract and image based theatre production that tells the story of a wonderful Grandmother by emerging artist Shanaia Boutsady.
Both NEKE and MAETU premiered at Kia Mau Festival 2021 in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington.
